In 1981, YEMF (now LMI) bought our first office at 147 Albertbridge Road, Belfast for £1,500 ☎️🙂.
A derelict building, the property took over a year to renovate. The tradesmen who managed the renovation project were Robert Glass from Castlederg and Norman McCreedy from Hillsborough, who were joined by teams of young, enthusiastic volunteers every Saturday morning. The total cost of the renovation was approximately £20,000.
The official office opening took place in 1982 when the guests of honour were Pastor Francisco Carrillo from Portugal and Mr Joe Wright, a missionary from Northern Ireland who, along with his wife, served the Lord for more than 50 years in the Amazon jungle. (Today, Mr and Mrs Wright’s son, Christopher, is the International Ministries Director of Langham Partnership International and a prolific author on the subject of Christian mission.)
The first staff to work in the office were our co-founders and directors, Thomas and Yvonne McClean, along with Florence Brown, who later went on to serve the Lord in the mission field with WEC International 🌍✝️.
