LMI's 'A word for your week' devotional taken from John John 8:12

The Gospel of John tells us who Jesus is, why He came, and what He can do for us! We will discover this as we look at more of the I AM’S of Jesus.

‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’ John 8:12.

The first recorded words of God are in Gen 1:3 ‘Let there be light, and there was light’ Light was essential at creation. In John 1:9 ‘we read that the true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.’

Light is defined as Life ‘In Him was life, and the life was the light of men’ John 1:4

Christ came to bring us out of darkness. He shows us what we are like and the need of His light in our lives.1 Peter ch2 v9b ‘who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light’. When we receive the Saviour we have His light in our hearts.

God has also given us His word. Ps 119:105 ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.’ We have the promise of Jesus Himself that He is our light on the journey of life. In fact, He alone is the light of heaven Revelation 21:24 ‘And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.’

Light of the world, you step down into darkness

Opened my eyes let me see

Beauty that made this heart adore you

Hope of a life spent with you

Here I am to worship

Here I am to bow down

Here I am to say that you’re my God

You’re altogether lovely

Altogether worthy

Altogether wonderful to me

King of all days

Oh so highly exalted glorious in heaven above

Humbly you came to the earth you created

All for love’s sake became poor
