‘I Am God Almighty, walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly. - Genesis 17:1-2
This is the word of The Lord to Abram when he was ninety-nine years old.
God was telling Abram He was the Almighty God because He was going to do something amazing in his life, which would have consequences throughout all of history.
Abram’s name would be changed, and he would indeed be the father of many nations, as God had said in Genesis 12 when He called Abram to go to a land that He would show him when he obeyed. In Genesis 15 God reassured him again ‘Fear not Abram, I am your shield, your reward shall be very great’. Abraham fell on his face and laughed at the impossibility of Sarah to bear a child at ninety!
With El Shaddai, our Almighty, all sufficient God, nothing is impossible.
Exodus ch 6 v 2 – 3 God spoke to Moses and said to him, ‘I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty,’ but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them.’ God was going to use Moses to lead the children of Israel out from Pharaoh’s bondage and slavery.
As God’s people today we have the privilege of His promises. Ps 91 v 1 ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty’.
From the beginning of time until eternity, God will remain the Almighty. Rev ch 4 v 8. ‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!’
Holy, holy, holy
Lord, God Almighty
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity
Holy, holy, holy
Though the darkness hide Thee
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see
Only thou are holy, there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity
Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty
All thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons blessed Trinity
