LMI's 'A word for your week' devotional taken from Genesis 16:13

EL ROI - Reading Genesis 16:13-14 and Psalm 139 v7:16

The angel of The Lord spoke to Hagar at the spring of water in the wilderness. God provided water for her immediate need. After listening to what he told her to do, she said ‘You are a God of seeing, Truly I have seen him who looks after me’.

The Psalmist David reminds us in Psalm 139 that God is an all seeing God. He saw us before the days of baby scans! Verse 13 ‘For you formed my inward parts, you knitted me together in my mother’s womb’.

He continues in verse 15 ‘My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth’.

His joy and thanksgiving for life itself in v14, contrasts sharply with the disregard for human life in today’s society.

How reassuring to know that God is watching over us at every stage of our lives.

His Holy Spirit dwells in his children (Romans 8 :16)

His presence is guaranteed ‘He will not leave you or forsake you’(Deuteromy 31:6)

His promise is forever ‘And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also’ John 14:3

We trust in a God who saw us before we were born, tells us we must be born again to enter into His family, and will take us to live with Him forever!

Why should I feel discouraged

Why should the shadows come

Why should my heart be lonely

And long for heav’n and home,

When Jesus is my portion?

My constant friend is he

His eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches over me.

Refrian

I sing because I’m happy

I sing because I’m free

For his eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches me

Let not your heart be troubled

His tender word I hear

And resting on his goodness

I lose my doubts and fears

Though by the path he leadeth

But one step I may see

His eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches me

His eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches me.

Whenever I am tempted

Whenever clouds arise

When songs give place to sighing

When hope within me dies

I draw the closer to him

From care he sets me free

His eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches me

His eye is on the sparrow

And I know he watches me
