Continuing our ‘Saviour’ devotional series, Lorna Wilkinson brings us to the central letter - ‘I’ – and focuses our minds on a key event in world history, the resurrection 🌅🙂 (1 Corinthians Chapter 15:14-23).
The resurrection was a remarkable historical event, but even more than that, it was - and is - a cause for celebrating Jesus Christ Himself! “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die…” John Chapter 11:25-26 📖.
Christianity is not a religion of rules documented by someone who has long since died. Rather, in Acts Chapter 2:24, Peter tells us, “God raised him [Jesus] up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.”
A missionary friend spoke of how her former religion had taught her to pray to idols. One day, she felt God speaking into her heart, ‘why are you praying to a god who can never answer your prayers?’ Many years have now passed since she turned to the actual Saviour – the living and true God (1 Thessalonians 1:9) - and she is still serving Him in her homeland of Japan! 🇯🇵 .
Christianity is a living relationship with a living Saviour who rose from the dead 🙏🏻🙌🏻.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” Galatians Chapter 2:20.
As G. Campbell Morgan put it, “Upon all the virtue of His life, and the value of His death, and the victory of His conflict, God set the seal in the sight of Heaven and earth and hell, when raising Him [Jesus] from the dead.”
Easter celebrates a living Saviour who wants to dwell in the hearts of all who repent and believe the Gospel. He is eternal life and He alone can give us eternal life!
Thank God that the Lord Jesus Christ has been raised and our preaching and faith are not in vain 💬❤️.
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand:
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.
