“Where, O death, is your victory?
 
Where, O death, is your sting?”
 
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
 
Hope is a commodity that can often be in short supply at various times in our lives. We face many challenges and adversities, that can reduce the sense of hope within. Even at times when we have hope in abundance, it can be misplaced, hoping in things that readily let us down.

Hope Is Here Devotional | Day Ten

How often do you use the word ‘hope’ in your daily life? Maybe you’ve said to someone, ‘I hope it goes well for you’ or ‘I really hope it doesn’t rain today’?

I want to take a moment to explore the beauty of biblical hope and how it impacts our lives.

Let’s begin with acknowledging the source of all hope, God. Romans 15:13 (ESV) says “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” As we trust God in the minutes, hours, days and weeks that make up our lives, we can open our hearts to a hope that transcends all earthly circumstances.

Hope Is Here Devotional | Day Nine

I found myself thinking about the title of this series. It reminds us that hope is here – it is right before us and present, if we only look for it and have the faith to accept it.

In this world, there may be those feeling hopeless, feeling there is ‘no light at the end of the tunnel’ for their own personal situation, and yet … Jesus gives light to the darkest of places.

Light and dark are opposites. In the light, we see our way clearly, while in the dark, we stumble and fall. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12 ESV). What a wonderful promise is found in this verse!

In a world where there often seems to be little optimism, and the reports we hear often offer nothing but bad news, conflict and war, disease and death, storms, earthquakes, famine and disaster, where can we find hope?

In recent weeks, some song lyrics have been ‘stuck’ in my head, reminding me about where my hope is: “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name.”
